Frequently Asked Questions

When and where do you meet?

We meet on the first Thursday of the month in the United Reformed Church Hall, Abbey Lane, Saffron Walden, CB10 1AG; check-in starting at 7:30 pm with meeting to start at 7:45 p.m.

How much does it cost to be a member?

Our year begins in April and subscriptions are £51 (this includes a contribution towards the County and National Federations). If you become a member later in the year, the fees are reduced pro rata.

How many members do you have?

We have more than 70 active members and always have room for more!

Who are your members?

Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds (e.g. teachers, civil servants, homemakers, legal and medical professionals and clerical support workers). We have a variety of interests (e.g. gardening, reading, fine dining, cooking, crafting, and rambling).  Most of us live in or around Saffron Walden, however anyone is free to come to one of our meetings no matter where they live.

How long do your meetings last?

You can plan about two hours for the meeting.

Do I have to commit to attending every meeting?

Not at all, although we hope our members do come and enjoy the variety of programming and the chance to meet with friends and, of course, have refreshments.

Can I bring a guest?

Yes, of course.  We do ask for a guest contribution of £4 per visit; however their first visit is free.

Can I pick and choose from various activities?

Yes.  You can be as active as you wish.  Nothing is mandatory.

Is Gibson WI affiliated with any particular religion?

No.  We are an inclusive organisation and women of all faiths (or none) are welcome to attend.

I have interests that are not on your activities list.  Can I make suggestions for other activities?

Yes, please let us know and we can explore the possibilities for new activity groups.

I work full time.  Can I still participate in the Gibson WI if I only can attend evening meetings?

Certainly.  We have many members who are actively employed.
